Week 24:
Caterina and the Lemonade Stand VS
Three Bears in a Boat
Caterina and the Lemonade Stand:
Summary:
Caterina loves making lists and planning big, creative projects, and
this time she’s planning a lemonade stand – the perfect summer pastime. She’s
hoping to earn enough money for a new scooter, but finds that she’s not the
only one in town with the lemonade idea. Everybody seems to be selling the
refreshing treat, so how can Caterina’s stand truly stand out?
Leave it to our hard-working, artistic bird (with a little help from her faithful younger brother, Leo) to make a joyous success of her plan. Readers will want to try Caterina’s bright idea, or maybe come up with a great one of their own. And they’ll cheer the surprise ending -- a happy one for Caterina and especially for sweet Leo.

Review:
This is a touching book. Every kid who's done a lemonade stand will
appreciate it for sure. The illustrations are fun in an artsy, creative kind of
way. It matches well with the point of the story. "What's that point?"
you ask? Well, you'll just have to read it to find out!
Three Bears in a Boat:
Summary:
Three bear siblings break their mother’s favorite blue seashell, and rather
than tell her, they decide to set out in their sailboat to find her a new one.
On their quest they encounter salty sailors, strange new islands, huge whales,
and vast seas but no blue seashells. When a treacherous storm suddenly blows
in, the three bears find themselves tossed about in their little boat, far from
Mama. What will become of their search, and what will it take to bring them
safely home?

Review:
I was half way through this book thinking it was "just ok"
and "a little long". But the second half won me over. I really
enjoyed this book! The illustrations were great. Great. And wait till you read
the last line. It was subtle, but sometimes subtle humor can be appreciated the
most.
The Winner:
Congratulations to Three Bears in a Boat!
We will see you in
November!
We’ll see everyone else next week!
